A Coin of Edward VII

Set in the Victorian county side there are three primary characters one man, two women. Both women love the man but the man has given his heart to only one of them. The temptation to follow his heart is strong and he entreats his desire to give in to the feelings that they share. She knowing that he is bound by his father's word and his honor to marry the other resists. So understanding that his path is set the man bestows upon his betrothed the longed for engagement ring and gives the other a coin of Edward VII with a Diamond, an Amethyst, and a Pearl. What follows includes a mysterious man, a retired detective, an apparent crime of passion, an confusion of identities, a total muddle of a mess, all brought clear in the end. This book was part of the work of the man that inspired Doyle to create Holmes.
