Wise Owl's Moving Up

"Wise Owl's Moving Up" is an easy second grade reading workbook. It follows, "Wise Owl's Vowels and Sight Words," the advanced first grade level. "Moving Up" reviews the 36 vowel spellings taught in the first grade workbook and adds 3 more. An advanced vowel chart comes with the workbook. Students learn the vowels on the vowel chart, one row at a time. The first six lessons review sight words learned in the the previous level. The review sight words are presented at the rate of 10 words a lesson. Starting with lesson 7, the child learns new vowel sounds and 50 new sight words. From lesson 7 on, the sight words are taught at the rate of 5 new words per lesson. Children also learn word skills, such as adding suffixes and prefixes to root words. Each lesson contains two stories to read. The stories contain the new sight words and words to sound out with the vowel sounds taught. Stories are followed by activity pages, which include comprehension questions. The second story's activity sheet includes a writing prompt, for the students. Use the "Wise Owl's Placement Tests" to make sure your student is ready for this level.
