Francis Taylor (1589-1656) was a Reformed Presbyterian minister and a member of the Westminster Assembly.
Taylor works from two texts, 1 Corinthians 1:26-29, “For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called. But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world…etc.” and 2 Peter 1:10, “Give diligence to make your calling and election sure.” He covers the Apostle’s meaning to the texts, then expounds God’s vocation, God’s election, God’s end and God’s glory. Then in a separate section he explains God’s choice and man’s diligence in that election, as well as sundry applications demonstrating that there is a way to make our calling and election sure by diligence.
This is an extremely important treatise on the nature of election and predestination as universally believed by the reformers and puritans.
