A Story About the Short-Nosed Mole

The Little Digger of the Northern Fields is a charming adventure story about Tunn, a small short-nosed mole who lives deep beneath the meadows of northern China. Tunn knows the underground world better than any creature alive. With his powerful shovel-like paws and remarkable short, sensitive nose, he can navigate the darkness and find food hidden beneath the soil. But his peaceful life is suddenly threatened when a hungry badger discovers his tunnels. Then heavy spring rains bring a devastating flood, forcing Tunn to leave the safety of his underground home and venture into the frightening world above. Using his courage, instincts and extraordinary digging abilities, he searches for higher ground and eventually discovers a new place to call home. There, Tunn meets Nira, another short-faced mole. Together they build a new underground world—a secret network of tunnels, sleeping chambers and a worm pantry. A beautifully illustrated tale of courage, survival, friendship and finding a new home, The Little Digger of the Northern Fields introduces young readers to the fascinating hidden life of one of nature's most remarkable little creatures.
