The three pieces in Moonlight Dances were composed in 1984, 1990 and 1993 respectively. The sources of my inspiration were folktale stories in Nigeria. The first piece opens with a call-and-response pattern between the right and left hand. The dance element in this piece is most vivid in the sections conjoining the triple and duple rhythmic patterns. The second piece, though moderate in tempo is slightly complex than the former. The third piece was composed in Lagos in 1984. It is an exciting and captivating lively piece of music interlaced with all sorts of dramatic nuances using wider registers of both the right and left hand. It is interesting to note the dramatic usage of the number 3 in this collection, as exemplified in (1) the three movements of the piano work; (2) three different keys ascending in thirds, (3) from C major in the first movement to E-flat in the second movement, and finally finding repose in G major in the last movement.
