Having no knowledge of poetry or the various types, I simply wrote what seemed natural to me. My personal preference was poetry having a specific rhythm and rhyme. I was aware that most poetry today is written in what is called a “free style”; nevertheless, I innately wanted to write poetry in a more structured format having both rhythm and rhyme.
After completion of my first set of poems, I recognized that most all of my poems had four lines to a verse with the second and forth lines rhyming. The name for this style for poetry is “Quatrain”, defined as: “A stanza or poem consisting of four lines. In the basic form, Lines 2 and 4 must rhyme while having a similar number of syllables.”
