Consciousness is the topic that initially inspired my interest in philosophy. In 2005, I completed a Part II in History and Philosophy of Science for my BA (Hons) at the University of Cambridge. My dissertation endorsed a dualist account of consciousness.
After graduating, I was keen to write more on the topic and expand on the main thesis of the dissertation. With the support and encouragement of my supervisor Peter Lipton, I turned the resulting work into a book. The book was intended as a personal project to make sense of my own philosophical thinking, rather than as something that would be of interest to the wider academic community. Nonetheless, I wanted to make the work publicly available in case of interest, and so it was self-published by Lulu Press in 2006 with a comprehensively edited reissue in 2024.
On 25th November 2007, a year after the book was initially published, Peter Lipton passed away. I remain eternally grateful for his insightful instruction and generous support. He has had a profound influence on my philosophical thinking, for which I am deeply thankful.
As noted above, the book was intended as a personal project, rather than as something that would be of wider academic interest. Sometimes philosophy can be done just to fulfil a personal need. However, in case you are curious, it is available at Lulu Press and archived at PhilPapers.
