C'est la vie: Ein Deutscher

Hans Schmidt was born on the 23rd of February 1920, on the right side of the Rhein River, in Bendorf, Germany. He led a fairly typical life of the time, trained as a carpenter and eventually drafted into the Wehrmacht as a combat engineer. Eventually he was captured by the Russians, survived the POW camp and returned to Germany in 1949 to raise a family.
