Why would the pagan king of all Persia, allow 42,360 Jewish captives, and priests and 7,337 Jewish servants with hundreds of horses, mules and camels return to Israel? What motivated him to open his treasury to give back all the precious gold and silver artifacts King Nebuchadnezzar had pilfered seventy years before? The Bible says:-
"The governor ordered them not to eat any of the food until there was a priest ministering with the Urim and the Thummin." (Ezra 2:63, & Nehemiah 7:65).
The priests were responsible for these God given precious artefacts to Moses, surely they had no intention of going hungry, so where was the Urim & Thummin?
To travel beside the Euphrates River was one thing, but what about the rough Kings highway through the mountains? This is the story of the stones journey from Babylon to Jerusalem. It attempts to explain why so many people returned to Israel from other countries at this time, and why the priests waited for the stones at the Feast of Tabernacles.
