Sacred Totalitarianism

The truth is that the "totalitarian" method, in both Sunni and Shiite law, had its constituent elements built centuries ago. This is clearly evident, for example, in the abundance of compilations by Ibn Taymiyya and Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyya, who left no field of law, science, or literature, no current of philosophy or thought, no opinion in medicine, psychology, or sociology untouched, in order to criticize, distort, and destroy it. While Ibn al-Qayyim, who was not a physician, wrote Prophetic Medicine for the people, Ibn Taymiyya excommunicated and deemed permissible the blood of anyone who deviated from "his saved sect"!
