A Tribute to George Herbert Walker

George Herbert Walker was an investment banker in the early part of the 20th Century. The grandfather and great-grandfather of two U.S. Presidents, an avid horseman, he owned a stable of thoroughbreds and helped renovate Belmont Race Track. As a sportsman, he played football in college for Washington University in St. Louis and was called the best halfback in the school's history. An avid polo player and golfer, he was an early member of Augusta National Golf Club, among several others. Born in St. Louis, his life changed when he moved to New York shortly before the start of the Great Depression. Founder of the Walker Cup, the former USGA president was a true man of many qualities.
