Under the Old Testament system of worship, the priest would come twice a day – morning and evening – to offer specially-prepared incense upon a golden altar. This altar was located in the Holy Place, and situated just outside the entrance to the Holy of Holies. The incense symbolised the public prayers which God’s people offered to Him, and which He accepted as a sweet-smelling aroma (Ps. 141:2). In THE MORNING SACRIFICE, Pastor James Smith seeks to turn our thoughts to the practice of morning prayer. These short devotions focus on spiritual topics that not only warrant deeper thought and meditation, but which we may confidently bring before God as matters for prayer and thanksgiving at the start of each day. ───────────────────────── First published in 1859.
