Elements of Computer Arithmetic An Analytical Approach

This is an introductory, but detailed presentation of the binary arithmetic used in computers. It gives definitions of the two most widely used codes (straight and reflected binary (Gray and Lucal variants), describes and analyzes the binary patterns characteristic of each and derives various alternate forms of logic for counting and addition. It means to offer the reader on the one hand, a familiarization or reacquaintance with the basic concepts and properties relevant for this particular topic of computer architecture and on the other hand some amount of practice in the three possible approaches to the subject: arithmetic, based on patterns and Boolean. The book can be used as an introduction to more advanced texts on the subject of computer arithmetic. Those already familiar with the arithmetic aspects may find it useful as a source of examples and applications of Boolean algebra.
