A culmination of stories of an exiled Temani Jew, who resides and grows up in an America with no knowledge, history, or much reference to their ethnic heritage in a school system dominated by Ashkenazi centricity and whiteness. Through poetry, I document my trauma and conflicted self, reclaiming my narrative and finding affirmation in my past roots through my contemporary writing. Not waiting on an elitist Jewish publication to undo their racism and see worth in my culture and make room for us and me more than just a tokenized identity that they pick and choose what to strip but not honor our contributions to the world's Jewry and advancement in society. Here is an ebook for all the Temani, Mizrahi, and Jewish people of color who never felt represented by their own shuls, camps, and JCCs. Where we can all feel healed, find a bit of our home, connect with the neglected parts of ourselves we had to neglect, and find joy, tears, and triumph in the midst of all the whitewashing, intra-antisemitism, and xenophobia we have experienced from American society and Ashkenazim. We all deserve to be seen, heard, represented, affirmed, and admired in humanizing ways and to make room for others like us to belong, rather than internalizing that they are misfits to society, to rebuild a wholesome future where all of our kids, regardless of their background, can assert their confidence into healthy, happy, and whole leaders.
