Learning to improvise over Coltrane Changes is a huge challenge that every aspiring jazz musician will have to face at some point. The chord motion is unnatural and angular - it’s a challenge to just play the changes, never mind creating a cohesive solo that tells a story. 26-2 is one of the lesser known of Coltrane’s tunes that have his signature chord sequence, it was recorded during the same sessions that produced “Coltrane’s Sound” in 1960, but it wasn’t included on the album until years later when it was re-released on CD.
This book is a collection of transcriptions of solos on 26-2 by tenor saxophonists. John Coltrane’s solo on the original recording is included, followed by Joe Lovano, Mark Turner, Jimmy Green, Ravi Coltrane, Jakob Dinesen, Marcus Strickland, and Chris Potter.
