Susannah was born in Dublin in 1841, and died in 1937. Her life included famine, rebellions, and the birth of the Irish Free State. From a working-class background, she became part of the emerging Catholic middle-class, and married a successful businessman who served as an M.P. in Parnell's Irish Party in the British Parliament. She lived through social, technological, political and economic changes over nearly a century.
