The Silence That Tests Faith
What does faith do when evil appears to prosper and God seems silent?
Psalm 10 enters the painful tension between what the believer knows about God and what circumstances seem to suggest. The wicked boast, exploit the poor, reject divine authority, and act as though judgment will never come. Meanwhile, the suffering cry for help and wonder why the LORD appears to stand afar off.
This psalm does not hide the believer’s confusion or silence his difficult questions. Instead, it transforms anguish into prayer. The psalmist describes evil honestly, brings injustice before God, and calls upon the LORD to arise, defend the oppressed, and break the power of the wicked.
As the prayer unfolds, uncertainty gives way to renewed confidence:
“The LORD is King for ever and ever.” — Psalm 10:16
God’s apparent silence is not absence, weakness, or indifference. He sees every act of cruelty, hears the desire of the humble, prepares their hearts, and will judge righteously. Evil may appear powerful for a season, but it will not rule forever.
Rooted in the King James Version, this devotional study offers biblical explanation, spiritual reflection, and practical application for those facing injustice, unanswered questions, or seasons when God seems distant.
Psalm 10 reminds readers that faith is not the denial of hardship. It is the decision to pray when heaven seems quiet, trust when evil appears unchecked, and rest in the certainty that the LORD remains King.
