This book is a direct response to Mother Teresa's request that some of the letters of those who share in her work and the work of her Sisters and Brothers through prayer and suffering should be published. It is the story of the spiritual friendship between Mother Teresa and Jacqueline de Decker, a Belgian woman who, unable to work in India because of a spinal disease, became the first of thousands of spiritual links throughout the world who offer joyfully a life of suffering in support of the active work of the Missionaries of Charity. Mother Teresa's letters, Jacqueline de Decker's and the life stories of those afflicted with every conceivable disease, bear powerful witness to the belief that "Suffering in itself is nothing, but suffering accepted and borne together is joy".
