The Colourful Keys Piano Method - Older Beginner book is for teens and adults. It is a condensed version of Level 1, Level 2 and the Repertoire Book. The Older Beginner method book has been designed to be used alongside supplementary beginner piano pieces to provide variety for the teen and adult learner. Teachers can start including supplementary pieces from unit one, once the student is comfortable playing with both hands. Students will learn piano techniques including sitting at the piano, hand shape, arm weight, non-legato playing and the rotation technique. They will develop these techniques through warm-up exercises and their reading pieces. Students will learn theory concepts including note values, time signatures, dynamics and tempo. They will develop their reading skills through intervallic reading of melodic and harmonic intervals of 2nds, 3rds, 4ths and 5ths and note knowledge through “say and play” note reading flash cards. Students will begin by playing hands separately on the grand stay and then learn how to play hands together. They will learn to use the sustain pedal and use the metronome whilst playing. Once students complete the repertoire book they will move onto an individualised program.
