
It is the late nineteenth century and Ilse Wiesterman has come to a crossroads in her life. She has always wanted to be a teacher, and she dreams of changing the world. After problems with her teaching style arise, Ilse leaves her home and travels to Hinckley, Minnesota to help her sister-in-law through a difficult pregnancy. Ilse meets two men in Hinckely who turn her life around and cause her to feel vulnerable for the first time in her life.
Ilse never dreamed of falling in love, but now she must choose between a man who she loves and a man who loves her. When she thinks she has finally found a future, a great fire sweeps through and destroys Eastern Minnesota; Ilse’s choice is made for her. Only by holding onto her hope and remaining strong in her convictions can Ilse build her future and fulfill her dreams.
