Goes Nicely with the Curtains traces the rise to international prominence of artist George Bright. The story, (loosely based on disparate factual happenings and personal experiences), traces Georges ascendancy through the eyes of the narrator, Richard, a lifetime friend from art school days.
The story starts out in the mid to late sixties, at an art college in London. Richard, a shy, naive northerner, befriends George, an artist of no particular talent, other than a sharp mind, and a deep-seated grudge. We follow Georges scheming and plotting through Richards eyes, as he first works his way through the English art scene, and then on to New York. We are given the opportunity to observe the social mores and intrigues of the local, and international, ‘art world’. Artists, critics, and of course, The Collectors, are all given a chance to display their private and public persona.
