He Walks With Me

The 1929 stock market crash ushered America into a twelve-year financial devastation known as the Great Depression. For some, it signaled the end of life but for many more, it was the end of life as it had always been. Yes, fortunes were lost, but so was life transformed for average families all over the Nation. Adults were out of work and many children had to go to work. Meat and potatoes was replaced with potato soup, and hand-me-downs made new clothes a thing of the past. Yet, out of those difficult times came a rebirth of family and family values that not only saw people through an almost impossible time, but effectively made life better than it had ever been. This is my story; a story of enduring and learning, of adjusting and growing. And, it's a lesson that our Nation needs to relearn and may even now be approaching a time when we will have to learn it!
