Follow my childhood in the Missouri Boot Heel as I listen to my great grandmother "Mama" tell me stories. My love for storytelling was sparked my Mama. Today I share this and other personal stories because I believe that Mama passed her gift of storytelling on to me.
I started elementary school in the Missouri Boot Heel and when my brother and I returned to St. Louis we encountered many problems in the city schools. I discuss some of the differences in the educational system in place in the 1950's in country schools verses city schools.
