A plague which kills more women than men ravaged the nation two centuries ago, and since then nothing has been the same. Because of their extremely small population, women have come to be worshipped and seen as divine. While the world is rent by warfare, Euchris, a young man who finds himself torn and challenged by the imbalance at the heart of their culture, is led through a journey by figures on both ends of the bloody spectrum.
Meanwhile he struggles to understand the idea of the clandestine God in a world of hearts closed to what may really be beyond - the divine.
