ByLycia Hays

Usually printed in 3 - 5 business days
After years of oppression, and two years after a civil war was fought to determine the freedom of African Americans, they were informed that they were free when soldiers arrived to Galveston, Texas to make the final announcement. Although physically they were told they were free, many of the owners fed them for the last time, and sent them away with no where to go, and no food to fend for themselves. Every year on June 19th the celebration of that freedom occurs. But have we overcome enough to say that we are really free?
