Widget's Batting Lesson

Grades K-3 Literature Enhanced Physical Education (LEPE) Coby and his friends don’t have enough players for tee ball so they call on Widget, Coby’s alien friend. The children learn that coaching Widget takes patience and know-how in this whimsical story your students are sure to love. The lessons included in ”Widget’s Batting Lesson” teach striking skills through cooperative learning lessons. Students are learning how to bat by learning how to coach. How it works: Step 1 - Teacher reads “Widget’s Batting Lesson.” Step 2 - Teacher introduces the skills, strategies and activities. Step 3 - Children use their imaginations to act out the story while practicing the skills. What is included: A fictional story. Three comprehensive and easy-to-implement lesson plans to teach batting skills and coaching cues. Rubrics for batting and coaching. What are the results: Intrinsically motivated children, enthusiastically engaged in activity, while learning to hit a ball.
