The poems for "My Heart In A Cage" came from Margie Kivel's experience of a silent heart attack on August 15th, 2019, followed by open-heart surgery with five bypasses on August 23rd. In her mind, it was a watery experience filled with hallucinations that had all the qualities of ekphrastic poetry. These experiences are not uncommon to life-threatening surgery situations.
