The Hooded Plover is an endangered shorebird. Unfortunately, it shares its habitat with that of beachgoers, dogs, cats, and other non-native animals permitted to run free along or above the high-tide mark in Hooded Plover preferred habitats. Nests are mere depressions in sand, merely disguised by twigs, pebbles, and dry seaweed - eggs are trodden on, eaten, the parents killed by dogs and cats. For many years we were privileged to share the beach with these wonderful little characters, and then progress came.
