Before man is redeemed, he functions from the intent of the flesh, or Biblically the old man as the spirit of man is dead. (Eph. 2:1, 2) The Bible teaches that Satan is the Lord of the dead while Christ is the Lord of the living. As Satan is lord of the dead, he is lord of the unsaved man – since the unsaved man has a dead spirit. Remember that the soul of man has never died, nor is it dead nor will the soul ever die. It is the spirit of man that is dead and in need of life. The lost man is influenced by Satan’s injection of thought through both his dead spirit and his dead body or through the flesh. The “intent” or deepest desires or motivation of the soul comes through man’s dead spirit and through the influence of the sinful flesh. (James 1:13-15) From this premise man is living in the intent of Fear. Fear is placing confidence on that which is not, while Faith places confidence than on that which is!
