It took me ten years to write this story. The pain of putting into words what happened filled my heart with a sadness and despair I could not bear.
The events of ‘Beyond the Call of Duty’ sprung from my stupidity. It’s hard to confess to the world that you’re stupid. Nobody wants to admit that to themselves let alone anyone else. But being stupid is something I had to acknowledge and take on the chin.
It was my stupidities that lead me into my greatest adventure; an adventure with repercussions still being felt today.
This story reveals my greatest secret for the world and chronicles the events of the darkest and most harrowing period in my life. But above all else it champions the love of a mother and son.
It’s a road-trip tale of epic proportions. A journey into the unknown and beyond. A journey one of us eventually had to continue alone.
It’s a story to put the record straight.
A story told in homage to my wonderful mum.
I love you, Mum.
