Between January 1943 and December 1945, Sergeant Norman Fisher, who styled himself "a love correspondent", wrote over 350 letters [edited here in this collection] from training camps around the U.S. and then from England, France, Belgium and Germany during World War II to his sweetheart back home in Maspeth, New York. His dear Honey kept all these love letters that were aimed at entertaining her and bolstering her morale (and perhaps his, as well). They also provide insightful glimpses into U.S. Army culture of the time, family life on the home front and the conditions that prevailed in the towns and countryside of Europe at the conclusion of World War II.
