'I tried to concentrate on scenery, tourism – external things. These were the things that could keep me together... Death had lost its novelty now - there were no further experiments, in that regard, that I could ever imagine feeling the need to pursue.'
‘Places To Go Before You Die’ is a novel about sex, murder and sightseeing; narrated by someone with no moral boundaries. It describes his thoughts and relationships and combines the appeal of an episodic, reflective travel journal with black comedy and a strong element of suspense. It raises a few questions about masculinity and sexual relations, and about our increasingly individualistic and amoral quest for consumable, exciting experiences. Primarily, it’s supposed to be funny, a bit scary, and slightly poignant.
How far would you go for experience? India? South East Asia? Australia? Japan? Or somewhere further? A place that's harder to come back from.
