Thought provoking and bold, at times the subversive irony is rich and thick. There’s no god behind these scriptures, which admit they can be wrong. Tenenbaum claims “if I’m a prophet, then I’m the worst of all prophets”. He knows you’re more suited to write your own plan for your life than he is. So many other worldviews have been represented by a sacred text, why shouldn’t there be a sacred text for the postmodernist, humanist, and agnostic? Their scripture must have no creed, and speak with no authority, lest it undermine their very foundation. This book contains a lot of heart, deep thought, love, down to earth human transparency, poetry, humor, self-help, advice, and aspects of life and death that touch all of us. Rather than an authority or source of revelation, it speaks like a friend who can be agreed with or disagreed with, who, perhaps on rare occasions, might happen to have the right thing to say at the right time.
