Dixie Dugan began as a series of novels in the 1920s – an aspiring showgirl whose adventures bordered on risque for the time. By the late 20s she had become a newspaper sensation – still a showgirl, but with a slightly tamer edge. Her popularity meant that DIXIE endured the flapper era, the Great Depression, World War II, Baby Boom, and a whole lot more – her stories ran for 37 years in the papers (1929-1966)! Her job, her focus, her cast of characters changed with it, but she kept the same charm and energy which made DIXIE DUGAN a nationwide sensation. Her comic appearances were also far and wide, beginning with strip reprints and original stories from Columbia in 1940. This first volume presents her earliest comic appearances, including her pages from Big Shot Comics #1-35 (a mix of strip reprints and original stories), one-shot Columbia Comics #1 (Sunday features) and DIXIE DUGAN #1 full length original). It's a great start to a long- series and a long-running Gwandanaland collection! WHAT IS A “TREASURY”?: In the Gwandanaland world, a TREASURY is a collection which is not complete, and either can never be complete or is unlikely to be complete in the near future. It's a great series, but you should not expect everything that was published from this character. DIXIE DUGAN has almost 4 decades of newspaper strips – getting all those is a near-impossible undertaking. Additionally, some of her comic appearances are not public domain, and still others are extremely hard to locate. So, when you see treasury, you know that while you cannot get everything that ever existed, yous till get the best and largest collection possible.
