Tracing the Genealogies and Roots of different Clans and Dynasties in Sindh & Indian History
Usually printed in 3 - 5 business days
My book Halakandi & Halas in Historical Perspective is written for scholars and readers interested in the cultural history, genealogy, and anthropology of the tribes of Sindh, as well as those engaged in South Asian studies and the exploration of ancient Indian dynasties. Its central purpose is to trace the ancestral roots and historical development of significant tribal lineages in the Indian subcontinent within the broader contexts of migration, dynastic transformation, and spiritual heritage.
Adopting an interdisciplinary approach that combines genealogy, history, and cultural anthropology, the book examines the deep roots of Siouth Asia’s tribal and cultural revolution. Drawing on more than twenty genealogical records and family trees, it reconstructs ancestral connections extending from ancient Indian dynasties to the Islamic era. It explores how successive influences from Kutch, Kathiawar, and Arab migrations shaped Sindh’s ethnographic and cultural landscape. Particular attention is given to the tribe of Sindh, whose genealogical and ethnographic history is traced through early rulers, migrants, and dynastic lineages from the era of Christ to the rise of Islam. The study also considers the views of eminent scholars such as Sir Henry Todd and James Todd, while examining historical connections involving Hellenic, Arab, and South Indian movements.
Distinguished by its genealogical depth and interdisciplinary perspective, Halakandi & Halas in Historical Perspective seeks to make an original contribution to South Asian historiography. It presents a detailed genealogical study of the Hala tribe and explores the continuity of cultural identity through religious and political transitions. By documenting a largely unexamined lineage and demonstrating the potential of genealogy as a source for historical and anthropological inquiry, the book contributes to a broader understanding of Sindh’s social, cultural, and spiritual heritage.
