The Scarlet Letter

Follow Jane Eyre, an orphan living with her uncle's family as her uncle's dying wish. Her aunt and cousins abuse her physically and emotionally, but she is finally allowed to attend a school for girls. Following the tragic events at school, she seeks work as a governess, and falls in love with her employer, Edward Rochester. Their romance is doomed by a mysterious, savage woman, whose presence forces Jane to make a decision that threatens to leave her alone, cold, and faint with starvation.
