THE PRINCE OF PERIL is the second novel in the Venus trilogy by American writer, editor, and literary agent, OTIS ADELBERT KLINE. It was first serialized in ARGOSY magazine in four parts beginning on August 2, 1930 and published in book form by A. C. McClurg later that year. The August 2, 1930 Argosy cover and the McClurg dust jacket both used the painting by Robert A. Graef. THE PRINCE OF PERIL serves as the second book in his Venus trilogy (also known as the Robert Grandon series).
The novel, in the ‘Sword and Planet’ genre, follows a complex web of interplanetary mind-swaps. Using a secret astral projection method developed by a scientist named Dr. Morgan, the mind of a young Martian is cast into the body of an Earthman named Harry Thorne. From there, he is projected onto the ancient, dangerous jungles of Venus (known natively as Zarovia).
He wakes up inhabiting the physical body of Prince Zinlo of the mighty empire of Olba. He is instantly thrown into a fight for survival, forced to dodge assassination plots from Taliboz—a treacherous noble trying to wipe out the royal family to seize the throne.
