Let The Chips Fall

Katherine "Kat" was born into a traditional West Indian Christian family, and has one sister and three brothers. She was expected to fall in line with the normalcy of becoming educated, getting married, and having children. But Kat finds herself being against that grain, realizing at a young age that she was attracted to females. This was not something accepted by her parents, so instead of coming out and being her true self, Kat instead lives life according to her parents wishes. She meets a wonderful man named Jahari, marries him and has two children. Within her marriage she encourages threesomes with other females as a way of satisfying her lesbian cravings. Aside from dealing with her identity issues, Kat is a stellar individual and pillar in her community in Queens, New York. With her eyes set on becoming the first female Mayor of New York City, she worked hard throughout her childhood and as a young adult, learning the political ropes along the way. She progresses from working within her community, to interning for the City Councilman; later becoming his predecessor and the first female NYC Councilwoman. While Kat is breaking barriers in her professional life, she struggles with her sexuality and the desire to come out and break those barriers as well. It's not until she begins an affair with Shani, a proud lesbian and colleague, that she falls in love for the first time in her life. This is what prompts Kat to reveal her truth to everyone. Fear of the unknown; Fear of people's reactions; Fear of being disowned by her family; Fear of losing everything she worked hard for and having it overshadowed by her sexuality; All became non-factors after genuine love comes into play. Kat comes out to her husband first, also being upfront about her lesbian affair. Next are her parents, political constituents, and the public. How will Kat's decision to come out affect her life? Will her husband and family understand? Is anyone, everyone going to support her? Will all of her sacrifices and accomplishments be disregarded? Will her political career and hopes of becoming Mayor be dashed away? Will she have a happily ever after with Shani, her soul mate? The answers to life are not foreseen.
