As every wise head knows, feathers are not to be taken lightly. Whether as pens, decorations or stuffing for pillows, their effects have always been strange and subtle and occasionally demonic. A gambler has a strange encounter with a peculiar old woman, and subsequently finds himself playing an unfamiliar game. A shop receives a rare customer, and the transaction that ensues is neither simple nor straightforward. A fortune-teller appears in an unexpected place and imparts some enigmatic lessons. Whether written by the quill of fate or dreamed up on a mattress stuffed with goose-down, their lives are plumed and barbed with mysterious odds and ends.
