PERFORMANCE OF SELF HELP GROUPS: AN ANALYTICAL STUDY

India is considered as a country inhabited by poor people with so many differences in their social, economical and cultural aspects. It is true even today, after 75 years of Independence, for the first decade of after Independence in 1947, it was widely believed that growth would automatically reduce and eliminate poverty. But, by the end of the first decade after independence, it had become evident that growth alone was not enough and that active state intervention through redesigned as well as new policies of income and asset redistribution was necessary.
