Once Upon A Witch

ByR. Scott Byers

A young-adult novel about a girl and her friends and family coping with her modern-day terminal illness. The book conceives two worlds. In the real world, we see the evolution of real people facing a bittersweet tragedy. The other world, blended strategically between real-world chapters, is the adventure of a girl and her magical cat on a mysterious quest. The symbolism in the magical world is subtle yet poignant and by the end of the novel, the reader will love the characters and fully realize and appreciate how the two worlds are connected. The book gently tugs at the heartstrings at the same time it makes them dance with excitement. In the midst of danger and raw emotions, there are happy times and laughter. The story shows that loss is a part of life and that making peace with it is the best way to harness the courage, love and potential in us all.
