Monte Hale started his movie career at Republic Pictures in April 1946 with “Home On the Range”. PICTURE NEWS #8, adapted the film into comic form, but no other Hale stories were published until the popular Fawcett company began publishing MONTE HALE WESTERN with issue #29. It was the first Monte Hale comic, but Fawcett picked up the numbering sequence from the recently canceled MARY MARVEL Comics. The Fawcett issues had beautiful photo covers . Carl Pfeufer, best known for his exciting work on Fawcett’s TOM MIX, drew Monte’s stories with an inking assist from John Jordan. The series lasted until issue #82. Charlton then published six issues, but they were reprints of the Fawcett issues.
