Usually printed in 3 - 5 business days
A true story of a woman’s lifelong passion for the art of dance.
Born in 1904, the daughter of Swedish immigrants, Blanche Wadlund was trained in classical ballet in New York. As a young teen, she was offered a summer position with the Ballets Russes at the Met. The Ballet Master saw her audition and she was given the stage name Poetra Kinanda. Her passion for dance in all its forms led to a career that brought her to a silent movie role, Broadway, vaudeville, a California speakeasy, back to Broadway and the Roxyettes, precursor to the Rockettes. Her life on the stage ran through the Roaring Twenties, Prohibition, the Great Depression and World War Two. Along the way, a marriage, a daughter, divorce, and soon a second marriage to a silent movie actor/producer and radio personality with whom she travelled between Hollywood and New York. They also found opportunities on stage and radio in Hartford, Connecticut. Aging out of the rigorous demands of a professional dancer, she and her husband lived on a forested 200 acre farm in the rural town of Hadlyme, CT.
