In the late 19th century, Texas cowboys told their tales around a campfire while partaking of rich Arbuckle’s coffee with like-minded waddy boys of the open range. The stories these rough and tumble cowboys told, while certainly meant to entertain, were also tales intended to make a point or illustrate a moral lesson. The short stories & cowboy poetry in The Old Cowboy’s Box are written in this oral tradition.
Thus, they are as comfortable in the spoken word format as they are in the written variety. In fact, these stories & poems have a particular tone of their own when read aloud.
So, if you like a good cowboy story with a dash of the moral reasoning of the ancient cowboy way, then I believe you might just like The Old Cowboy’s Box. And, if you can manage a good Texas drawl, then you might want to read one of these tales or poems to your children or Grandpa. I bet they will enjoy it as much as you do.
