There are perhaps ten thousand things that this book might be. It might be a game to be played by yourself or with friends. It might be guided tour down the stream of self-consciousness, or a tool for navigating that stream when you find yourself stuck in an eddy. Maybe it's an impressionistic picture painted in response to something for which no words can be spoken, or even a way of coaxing that thing into showing itself. Or maybe it's just a whole bunch of nonsense. This book might be many things. One thing it most certainly is not, however, is a description of the way things really are. Once you start thinking of it in that way, it will slip right through your fingertips.
