Jim's life has fallen apart, and he feels a burning need to escape it. Drunk one night he buys a plane ticket for Moscow, and a few days later he's headed over. What ensues is a wild rollercoaster ride through space and time, through Russia (aboard the Trans-Siberian railroad), through China, through India and all the way down into Thailand, with a host of crazy adventures along the way. The Gobi desert by train, a romantic fling in Beijing, the thrills of Hong Kong, the madness of Delhi, the world goes rushing by and Jim goes along for the ride. All the while he is fending off ghosts, trying to rid himself of the past, of the girl he'd won and lost, the priceless treasure he'd inexplicably and voluntarily relinquished. As he flies from one exotic locale to another, the ghosts follow after and he is increasingly powerless to defend himself, leading to a grand and unsettling denouement in the bewildering heat of Bangkok, a crash landing worthy of remembrance.
