Human trafficking in 2025 remains a huge issue worldwide. With the rise of social media starting back in 2005, traffickers have increasingly utilized these platforms to recruit and exploit victims. Within the last 20 years, the cyber world has grown. The rise of social media has opened the floodgates for predators. Social media, unfortunately, offers obscurity, accessibility, and a broadened reach, which makes it an ideal tool for human traffickers to manipulate any vulnerable individual. This thesis investigates how human traffickers will use social media platforms for the recruitment and exploitation of victims; it also focuses on the tactics that make these platforms particularly susceptible to human trafficking activities. This study also explores the role of new-age cybersecurity in detecting human trafficking patterns and helps identify the most effective technologies and strategies for addressing these high-risk activities. Meanwhile, the research analyzes how the collaboration between social media companies, law enforcement, and cybersecurity experts can and does enhance the recognition and prevention of human trafficking within the digital space. The varying analysis of current monitoring and regulatory practices will highlight stakeholders’ challenges and propose solutions for improving digital and online safety. By merging insights from local and federal law enforcement, past and present technology, and current policies, this study proposes more of a comprehensive approach to tackling human trafficking in the new age of social media. The study emphasizes the importance of innovative cybersecurity measures in recognizing and preventing trafficking activities online using statistics and public findings.
