The Death of Glory
A gray child, a girl of six, appeared timidly in the street. She trembled and searched with vacant eyes for something or someone familiar, and she recognized nothing. Empty, she sat down crosslegged in the middle of the ravaged roadway and stared at the stump that had been her little hand, wrapped now in a filthy bandage of her own making.
