How to apply repeatedly for something, to anyone, of whom you expect to say no. When they reply in the negative you ignore it and write back apologizing for the fact that they could not have possibly received your letter, because the post box has befallen a disaster and the letter perished. You send them a copy of the original and subsequently another and another with ever more ludicrous and hilarious disasters.
