Things that the population holds dear - things that never goes out of fashion, are often in lieu of modernity, abandoned,
Older government housing (HDB flats) gives way to property redevelopment - splendid proof of economic prosperity.
Truth: Hillview Avenue HDB estate was an idealistic development that attempted to contain a miniature township, far from major town centres.
Reality: They are all forgotten today; the experiment ended without much fanfare, and in 2006, the buildings were gone.
Only thing left: A recollection. Hillview Avenue HDB estate exists today only in the photographs. Appreciate the beauty of destitution, and her proud historical significance, of being one of the few failed miniature township experiments.
This book contains more than 70 photographs of the flats, taken during her last days, including commentaries provided by former residents of the flats, and an appraisal to the history of HDB flats.
This book is first of a 12-part series to archive urban abandonment.
